Always wanted to play guitar but never found the right moment? At Plektra in Helsinki we offer guitar lessons designed for adults — no pressure, no prior experience needed. We work at your pace and focus on the music you actually want to play. Whether you put the guitar down years ago or have never held one, you are in exactly the right place to start.
Learning as an adult has real advantages. You already understand how songs are built, you can count rhythm, and you know what you want to play. That focus means many of our adult students reach their first full song faster than they imagined. Book Your First LessonA relaxed and social way to learn. You will progress alongside other adult beginners, and we shape the course content around the group's interests. It is the friendliest possible introduction to playing — and many students tell us the shared, low-pressure setting is exactly what keeps them coming back.
Prefer to learn one-on-one? Private lessons give you full flexibility — set your own schedule, choose your goals, and move as fast or slow as you like. Your teacher tailors every session to the songs and styles you care about, from acoustic singer-songwriter material to rock, blues and pop. Online lessons are also available if you travel or prefer to learn from home.

Adult guitar lessons
Not at all. Adults often progress faster than they expect because you can understand structure, count rhythm and set your own goals. Many of our adult students started in their 40s and 50s. The only thing that matters is regular practice — even 15 minutes a day adds up quickly.
Yes. Our adult lessons are built for complete beginners. You do not need to read music or own an instrument to start. We begin with the very basics — holding the guitar, your first chords, and a song you can play within the first few weeks.
Yes. We teach in English, Swedish and Finnish, so lessons are a good fit for expats and international residents in Helsinki. Just let us know your preferred language when you get in touch.
Group lessons for adults are €29 per lesson (60 minutes, 13 lessons per term). Private one-on-one lessons are €67 per lesson (45 minutes). Guitars are available to borrow for group students.
Most adults do one lesson per week and practise a little most days. Consistency matters far more than long sessions — short, regular practice between lessons is what turns new chords into muscle memory.
Yes. Private lessons are available both in person in central Helsinki and online, which works well if you travel for work or prefer to learn from home.
